April 2025

Inspiring words from Dan Gutman video

The CASL Board is excited to share several ways to celebrate School Library Month with your learning community.

There are a few April dates to keep on your calendar:

School Librarian Day: April 4

National Library Week: April 6-12

Bookmark Contest!

🎉 Congratulations to our 2025 winners in the following categories: PK, Early Elementary, Elementary, Intermediate, Middle, and High School!

Join Us Again in 2026!
CASL will be hosting the Bookmark Design Contest again next spring as part of School Library Month. The contest is open to students in grades PK–12, with categories based on grade level. We encourage school librarians to use this contest as an opportunity to highlight student creativity and celebrate the impact of school libraries in their communities.

📅 While exact dates for 2026 are still being finalized, the general timeline will follow this structure:

  •     Schools hold their own contests during School Library Month (April)
  •     CASL will accept school-level winners in late April
  •     Statewide winners will be announced in early May

Speak Up!

Finally, we want to encourage EVERYONE to find out when their Board of Education meeting is in April (hometown or work town) and SPEAK UP! Speak up for your program by highlighting all the amazing work you do OR speak up for the librarians (or lack there of) during public comment at the Board meeting in the town you live.

Please share your activities with us on social media by tagging us and AASL!

Happy School Library Month!

2024 Share Your Story!

The CASL Board is also hoping to have all library users share their Library Stories through our collaborative Flip. Our school library community has amazing stories to share! I'm not talking about the ones that sit on our shelves... We want to hear from you and your patrons about how libraries have moved, supported, encouraged, saved, and/or connected them. Please encourage participation in the Flip far and wide, the more stories the better! We are hoping to share these stories with the Legislators and lawyers working on HB5417 (OUR LIBRARY BILL).
